JJR: What roles have you had at JJR?
Nathaniel: When I joined JJR in 2017, I started as a program analyst on our U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Merit Review Support Services (MRSS) contract. From there I enhanced my role proficiency and became the lead program analyst for the Rehabilitation Research & Development (RR&D) service. After being in this role for about one year, the project manager role became available, and I went for it! Today I am the project manager on the MRSS contract directly supporting RR&D mission goals.
JJR: How did JJR make it possible for you to grow?
N: JJR has taught me to advocate for myself in whatever ways possible. Thinking outside of the box and really taking the initiative in the work you are doing can propel you to places you didn’t think you would be. I learned this from MRSS leadership when I first came on board. I challenged myself to encompass all these things as I moved through different roles, and I can say that it has made it possible for me to grow.
JJR: What is your advice for those who are looking to grow their careers in their current company?
N: Again, I believe that advocating for yourself, strengthening your role proficiency, and pushing innovative initiatives are all ways you can promote yourself in your career.
JJR: What do you enjoy most about working at JJR?
N: I enjoy the culture that has been curated not only by JJR, but specifically the MRSS team. We have had some transitions, and the team continues to work together like a well-oiled machine, all while promoting work-life balance. This makes the work I do enjoyable as I enjoy the people I do it with!
